Peanuts are a relatively small crop in commercial agriculture in Mississippi. Some 38,000 acres of peanuts were harvested producing 155 million pounds in 2016. Peanuts are grown on 128 farms with a $27 million value of production in 2016. the Mississippi Peanut Promotion Board provides funding for peanut research. Peanut research is conducted by scientists in the Mississippi Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station (MAFES).
