A fire in 1939 destroyed the mule barn, dairy barn, and implement shed, along with 30 tons of hay, implements, harnesses, and other equipment. Station employees, however, saved 30 head of cattle, 32 mules, and 7 horses. Later that year, a grant was received to replace the loss. Three buildings were constructed: a horse and mule barn of 16,960 square feet with a 260-ton hay loft, a dairy barn of 10,324 square feet with two silos, 30 milking stalls, a separate milk cooling department and space for 75 tons of feed, and an implement shed containing machinery and a blacksmith shop. The dairy barn was located on the south side of Deer Creek adjoining the horticulture field. The other new buildings were located east of the three-story office building.
