The Arrival of Catfish

Text:

The aquaculture program at Stoneville began in 1980 with a small staff of three people employed by MAFES and MCES, and research began on this relatively new agricultural crop–catfishIn 1982, the Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine joined the Stoneville team and began research on fish disease. A fish nutrition program was initiated in 1986, and the following year, the USDA-ARS joined forces with MSU to study catfish genetics. As the research staff grew, there was a practical need for each of the separate entities, to be housed together, and in 1998, a new facility was built and was named the Thad Cochran Warmwater Aquaculture Center.
