Wheat is a fall winter crop grown throughout most of the Delta. In 2016, 2.4 million bushels of wheat were produced with Coahoma County being the top producer. Some 1,247 farms grow wheat, which has a $10 million value of production. Wheat research is conducted by scientists in the Mississippi Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station (MAFES).
